CHỦ ĐỀ II: ĐÁP LẠI NGÔN NGỮ CHÀO MỪNG (RESPONDING TO WORDS OF WELCOME)

NỘI DUNG (CONTENT)

1. Nhận xét mở đầu qua đó bạn nhận diện nhóm/tập thể bạn đại diện, diễn tả sự hài lòng nơi bạn đang có mặt và gọi tên nhóm/tập thể mà bạn đang đến thăm như: (Opening comment in which you represent , express pleasure at being present and name the group you are visiting):

–  ‘As the representative of Language Training Canada, I am pleased to be able to visit The Institute of Public Administration of the Czech /tʃek/ Republic.’

(Với tư cách là đại diện của Tổ chức Đào tạo Ngôn ngữ Canada, tôi rất vui mừng được đến thăm Viện Hành chính Công của Cộng hòa Séc.)

2. Nêu lý do bạn hài lòng khi có mặt và/ hoặc nhận xét, ý kiến khen ngợi về nhóm/tập thể chào mừng bạn. (Reasons you are glad to be present and/or remark/ complimentary comment about the group welcoming you)

– ‘Until now, my contact with the Institute has been only by letter and fax; it’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to get to know you and to compare notes.’

(Cho đến nay, tôi chỉ liên lạc với Viện qua thư từ và fax; thật vui khi có cơ hội được làm quen và trao đổi thông tin với các bạn.)

Lưu ý:

Compare notes idiom

If two people compare notes, they tell each other what they think about something they have both done Trao đổi ý kiến:

o We’d both been out with the same man at different points in our lives so it was interesting to compare notes.

 3. Kết thúc ý kiến/nhận xét chỉ ra sự mong đợi khi có được chuyến thăm/gặp gỡ/sự kiện này. (concluding comment indicating your expectation to enjoy this visit/gathering/event)

– ‘Like you, I look forward to on-going collaboration.’

(Giống như bạn, tôi mong muốn tiếp tục hợp tác.)

Lưu ý:

As / Like

‘As’ (pre): chỉ bản thân chủ ngữ có chức năng người so sánh . Với tư cách

– As your brother, I must warn you to be careful. (I am your brother)

‘Like’ (pre): chỉ bản thân chủ ngữ và người so sánh không phải là một. (Giống)  như

– Like your brother, I must warn you to be careful. (I am not your brother, but he and I have similar attitudes.)

3. Diễn tả các lời mong ước (Expressing wishes)

Động từ

Anticipate /ænˈtɪsɪpeɪt/: mong chờ/trông đợi

o Anticipate that… We anticipate that sales will rise next year.

o It is anticipated that… It is anticipated that inflation will stabilize at 3 per cent.

Believe (in): tin tưởng

o I believe in his good character.

o Do you believe in nuclear disarmament? 

Find out about: tìm hiểu (về một cái gì đó, hoặc để có được thông tin về một cái gì đó)

o Cancer sufferers can go to this site to find out about support services that are available for them.

o How did you find out about the party?

Get down to: bắt đầu làm một cái gì

o I’ve got a lot of work to do, but I can’t seem to get down to it.

o I must get down to booking the hotels.

Make most of: tận dụng cái gì

o Charming and friendly, she will help you make the most of your visit.

o It’s a beautiful day – we should make the most of it.  

Be on the outlook for: tìm kiếm, triển vọng

o He was always on the outlook for new opportunities.

Expect /ɪkˈspekt/: mong đợi

Get to know: biết (được), làm quen, quen biết

o The first couple of meetings are for the doctor and patient to get to know each other.

o I’ll need a few weeks to get to know the system.

o During the year she spent inhospital, we got to know the nurses really well.

Teamwork /ˈtiːmwɜːk/: sự chung sức
